The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked people across India to light an “Aashirwad Ka Diya” at their homes on September 17. The initiative will mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.
BJP president Nitin Nabin urged people to light a traditional lamp and pray for Modi’s long life, good health and continued success.
What is the Aashirwad Ka Diya campaign?
According to Nabin’s appeal, people can join the campaign between 6 pm and 7 pm on September 17.
In his video message, Nabin spoke about the changes India has seen under Modi’s leadership since 2014. He also referred to the government’s goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.
The Aashirwad Ka Diya initiative will also mark the start of the BJP’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. The month-long campaign will run from September 17 to October 17.
BJP plans several programmes
The campaign also comes as Modi completes 25 years as a head of government. He became Gujarat chief minister in October 2001. He later became India’s prime minister in 2014.
As part of the campaign, the BJP has planned several public programmes. These include blood donation drives, cleanliness campaigns, youth activities and school competitions. The party also plans outreach programmes linked to government welfare schemes.
Several BJP-ruled states are preparing their own events. Haryana, for example, has announced programmes between September 17 and October 17.
The Aashirwad Ka Diya will be one of the first major activities of the wider campaign. It will connect Modi’s birthday celebrations with the BJP’s month-long public outreach programme.
