PM Modi Gets Uzbekistan’s Highest State Honour, Dedicates Award to 1.4 Billion Indians

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Uzbekistan’s highest state honour, the Order of Oliy Darajali Do‘stlik, on Sunday during his two-day visit to Tashkent. Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented the prestigious award to Modi in recognition of his role in strengthening India-Uzbekistan relations.
PM Modi Dedicates Honour to Indians
Accepting the award, PM Modi called it a moment of great pride. He said the honour was not just for him but for 1.4 billion Indians. He also dedicated it to the centuries-old friendship and shared heritage between India and Uzbekistan.
Modi highlighted the meaning of “Do‘stlik”, which means friendship. He said the word reflects the spirit of India-Uzbekistan ties. He also thanked President Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome during his visit.
India-Uzbekistan Ties Get Major Upgrade
The award came alongside a major diplomatic development. India and Uzbekistan agreed to elevate their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The two countries also discussed cooperation in trade, investment, defence, energy and digital connectivity. They set an ambitious target of taking bilateral trade to $5 billion by 2030.
A long-term framework for uranium supplies was also discussed as both nations look to deepen energy cooperation.
PM Modi is scheduled to travel next to Kyrgyzstan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit beginning August 31.
The latest developments mark a significant step in India’s growing engagement with Central Asia.
