Former BJP MLA Atar Singh Bhadana Killed in Rajasthan Mining Dispute

BHARATPUR: Former BJP MLA Atar Singh Bhadana died after a violent clash over a mining lease and crusher plant in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district. The incident took place in Bhonda village on Sunday evening, October 11, and was reported on Monday, October 12.

Bhadana, who represented Bayana in the Rajasthan Assembly from 2003 to 2008, suffered critical injuries during the clash. He was taken to a local hospital before doctors referred him to Jaipur for further treatment. He died before reaching the hospital, according to reports.

What Happened in Bharatpur?

The clash reportedly broke out near a mining lease and crusher plant in Bhonda village, which falls under Weir police station.

Reports said a large group of villagers allegedly attacked Bhadana and people accompanying him with sticks and stones. His bodyguard, Gagan Sharma, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Bhadana’s wife, Kamlesh BhadanaIndian, alleged that her husband had also been shot during the incident. However, police were still investigating the firing allegation. It had not been independently confirmed at the time of reporting.

Why Were Villagers Protesting?

The dispute between local villagers and the crusher plant operators had reportedly continued for years. Residents had raised concerns about the route used by mining vehicles and alleged the use of village grazing land.

Villagers had also held protests over the mining lease and the operation of the crusher plant. Reports said the plant had remained closed for an extended period before efforts to restart operations triggered fresh tensions.

Both sides have made allegations about how the confrontation began. Investigators will need to establish the sequence of events and determine who was responsible for the violence.

Police Investigate the Fatal Clash

Weir police station in-charge Dhirendra Singh said officers reached the area after receiving information about the clash. Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding Bhadana’s death and checking whether firearms were used.

Authorities also deployed police personnel in the area to manage tensions following the incident. Reports said teams were searching for those allegedly involved in the attack.

The death has brought renewed attention to the long-running dispute over mining operations and access routes in Bharatpur. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.

BH24 News will continue to track official police updates and developments in the case.
