Delhi Metro Shuts 6 Stations Amid Opposition Protest: Check Names and Timings
NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed entry and exit at six metro stations in central Delhi on Monday, October 12, amid heightened security ahead of an opposition march to the Supreme Court. The move may affect commuters travelling through busy areas of the national capital.
According to DMRC, the restrictions began at 6 AM and are scheduled to remain in place until 4 PM. However, interchange facilities will remain available at the affected stations. Authorities will review the situation and issue further updates if necessary.
Which 6 Delhi Metro Stations Are Closed?
The six metro stations affected by the restrictions are:
Janpath
Mandi House
Barakhamba Road
Central Secretariat
Rajiv Chowk
Patel Chowk
The closures apply to station entry and exit. Commuters who need to travel through central Delhi should check official metro updates before starting their journeys.
Why Has Delhi Metro Closed These Stations?
The closures come ahead of a Congress-led opposition march to the Supreme Court. The protest centres on allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Opposition leaders have questioned the voter-list revision process and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Election Commission has defended the exercise, saying it aims to remove duplicate and ineligible entries while allowing eligible voters to remain registered.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called on opposition parties, students and civil society groups to join the march. The planned demonstration is expected to increase security pressure in central Delhi.
Traffic Restrictions May Cause Delays
Delhi Traffic Police has also warned of possible traffic disruptions and diversions across several roads and junctions. The restrictions may affect people travelling to offices, markets and other important locations.
Commuters should allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes. They should also follow traffic advisories and official metro announcements for the latest information.
The situation remains subject to review by security agencies. Further changes to station access or traffic arrangements may follow depending on developments during the protest.
