Delhi Metro Stations to Close, Trains Cancelled Ahead of October 10 Protest

New Delhi: Delhi will introduce security measures ahead of a major protest on October 10, 2026. The restrictions will affect Metro passengers and railway travellers. Authorities have announced changes to services at several key transport locations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will close entry and exit gates at 57 stations from 9 PM on October 9. The restrictions will continue on October 10 until further notice. Meanwhile, Indian Railways has announced cancellations affecting passengers at two major railway stations.

Delhi Metro Closes Gates at 57 Stations

DMRC announced the restrictions ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar. The demonstration concerns changes to electoral rolls and related political demands.

The affected stations include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, ITO and New Delhi. Several other stations across the capital will also face restrictions.

However, commuters should understand one important detail. Gate closures do not automatically mean that all Metro trains will stop running. Passengers should check official updates before planning their journeys.

The authorities may also adjust train services according to security needs. Therefore, commuters should allow extra time and consider alternative routes.

Train Cancellations May Affect Passengers

Railway passengers should also prepare for possible disruption on October 10. According to reports, train services at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations will face cancellations between 4 AM and 2 PM.

These changes may affect people travelling to and from the capital. Passengers should check their train status before leaving home. They should also confirm departure times through official railway channels.

Furthermore, travellers from Uttar Pradesh and nearby states should plan ahead. Checking updates early can help passengers avoid unnecessary delays at railway stations.

Why Is Delhi Tightening Security?

The planned protest concerns the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters have raised concerns about voter-list changes and called for accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Delhi Police is preparing security arrangements to manage crowds and maintain public order. These measures also aim to reduce traffic problems around sensitive locations.

However, authorities have not announced a complete shutdown of Delhi. Residents can continue their daily activities, although some areas may experience delays and restrictions.

What Should Commuters Do?

Passengers should check Metro and railway updates before travelling on October 10. They should also leave early and keep alternative routes ready.

In addition, commuters should follow instructions from railway staff, Metro officials and police personnel. Careful planning can help residents avoid unnecessary travel problems during the protest.

The situation may change as security arrangements develop. Therefore, passengers should rely on official announcements for the latest information.
