Uddhav, Raj Thackeray Lead Mumbai Protest Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray joined hands in Mumbai on Sunday. The two cousins led a major protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest focused on alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Thackeray Cousins Unite for Protest

The ‘Virat Garjana Morcha’ began in south Mumbai and moved towards the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters. Congress and NCP (SP) leaders also joined the protest.

The joint appearance of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray marked a major political development. The cousins have remained on different political paths for years. However, they now came together to raise concerns about the electoral process. Protesters carried the national flag during the march.

Uddhav and Raj Target Election Commission

The protesters demanded action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition leaders have questioned the SIR process and raised concerns about changes in voter lists.

During the protest, Uddhav Thackeray strongly criticised the Election Commission and the government. He accused the authorities of weakening democratic institutions. He also warned against what he described as the rise of dictatorship.

Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray demanded that the SIR process be stopped. He also raised the issue of using ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines.

Opposition Parties Join Mumbai March

The participation of Congress and NCP (SP) leaders gave the protest a wider opposition presence. The joint appearance of the Thackeray cousins also drew attention to Maharashtra’s changing political equations.

The Mumbai protest comes amid wider opposition concerns over electoral-roll revisions. Similar demonstrations have also taken place in Delhi in recent days.

For now, the Thackeray cousins’ joint appearance has become a major talking point in Maharashtra politics. Their unity could also influence future political discussions in the state.
