CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar with Sonam Wangchuk on hunger strike, student protesters and Delhi Police barricades.

CJP Protest Day 10: Government, Police and Ground Updates

7 0

The CJP Protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar completed its tenth day on Monday, June 29, and continued without a settlement. Protesters remain at the site, while activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike has brought fresh attention to the agitation.

The latest developments now centre on the government’s response, Delhi Police’s handling of the demonstration and the conditions faced by protesters at Jantar Mantar.

CJP Protest Continues at Jantar Mantar

The continuous demonstration began on June 20. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has said the group will remain at Jantar Mantar until its demands receive a meaningful response.

Although the size of the crowd has changed from day to day, students, young people, farmers and civil-society supporters have continued to visit the protest site. Reports suggest that the sit-in is being sustained by volunteers from different professions.

Doctors, nursing workers, examination aspirants, lawyers, vendors and other supporters have reportedly helped arrange food, drinking water, medicines and bedding. This volunteer network has allowed the protest to continue despite Delhi’s heat, security restrictions and logistical difficulties.

What Has the Government Said?

As of June 30, the latest reports reviewed did not mention any formal announcement from the Union Education Ministry accepting the protesters’ main demand or opening direct negotiations with CJP leaders.

However, the ruling BJP has responded politically. BJP president Nitin Nabin indirectly criticised the movement during his visit to Telangana. He referred to “virus and cockroach” groups and said India’s Gen Z believes in nation-building rather than anarchy.

Nabin did not announce any action concerning CJP’s demand against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Therefore, the political exchange has intensified, but there is still no reported resolution to the protest.

Meanwhile, Dipke has accused the Centre of failing to respond to students and families affected by examination-related controversies. This remains an allegation made by the CJP founder.

Delhi Police Faces Allegations Over Protest Conditions

Delhi Police had earlier said that CJP had permission to hold its demonstration only until 5 pm on June 20. Nevertheless, the protesters remained at Jantar Mantar and continued their sit-in. Police barricades and security personnel have remained around the venue.

CJP leaders have since made several allegations about police conduct. Dipke claimed that authorities refused permission to install a portable toilet for Sonam Wangchuk. He also alleged that public toilets at the venue did not have water.

Moreover, CJP claimed that people bringing food, water and other supplies faced identity checks.

These claims have been reported as allegations by the protest organisers. The available reports did not include a detailed Delhi Police response to every sanitation-related accusation. Therefore, these claims should not be treated as independently established facts.

Attack on Protester Raises Security Concerns

Security concerns increased after a man associated with the protest suffered serious head injuries in an alleged iron-rod attack. Delhi Police arrested one person, according to reports.

CJP representatives claimed that around 15 people were involved in the incident. They demanded more arrests, an attempt-to-murder charge and action under the SC/ST Act.

The organisers also accused police of failing to take sufficient preventive action despite alleged threats. However, these accusations represent CJP’s version of events. The police investigation and legal process will determine further responsibility.

Sonam Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike Continues in CJP Protest Day 3

Sonam Wangchuk began his indefinite hunger strike on Sunday, June 28. His fast entered its second day on Monday.

Wangchuk is supporting demands related to accountability in the education system. At the same time, he is raising unresolved issues concerning Ladakh, environmental protection and democratic safeguards.

He has urged supporters who cannot remain at Jantar Mantar to observe a one-day solidarity fast. His participation has brought wider media and public attention to the CJP Protest.

What Happens Next?

For now, the protesters have given no indication that they plan to leave Jantar Mantar. The government has not announced a settlement, while the dispute over police conduct and protest-site facilities remains unresolved.

The next major development may depend on whether the Centre begins talks, formally responds to the protesters or changes its approach to the continuing demonstration.

Until then, the CJP Protest remains active at Jantar Mantar. Volunteers continue to support the protesters as questions grow about government accountability, security arrangements and the treatment of peaceful demonstrators.
