442 Years Later: 65-Year-Old Man Arrested in 1984 Delhi Murder Case

BH24 BREAKING NEWS

A murder case that had remained unsolved for more than four decades has taken a dramatic turn. Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a 65-year-old man who had allegedly been on the run for over 42 years in connection with a 1984 murder.

The accused has been identified as Natthu alias Natthulal, a resident of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. Police arrested him on August 18 while he was travelling from his village towards Farrukhabad. The arrest came after months of investigation and surveillance in Uttar Pradesh.

1984 Vikaspuri Murder Case

The case dates back to the night of May 22–23, 1984. Police found the body of Ashok Kumar at District Park in Vikaspuri, Delhi. He had suffered multiple knife injuries.

A murder case was registered at Janakpuri Police Station. During the initial investigation, police arrested another accused, Bhabhuti Prashad. Investigators also recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime.

Natthu, however, managed to escape. He remained untraced for more than four decades.

How Delhi Police Tracked Him After 42 Years

The Crime Branch recently decided to pursue the long-pending arrest. Officers went through old case records and conducted field verification across Sitapur and Hardoi.

Investigators eventually discovered that Natthu was still alive and occasionally visited his native village in the Pali area of Hardoi.

Police developed local intelligence and kept discreet surveillance on the area. On August 17, officers received information that a man matching Natthu’s description had been spotted near the village.

The next day, the Crime Branch team tracked him down and arrested him while he was travelling towards Farrukhabad.

What Happened on the Night of the Murder?

According to police, Natthu and Bhabhuti Prashad were friends. The victim and Prashad also belonged to the same village.

Investigators allege that a dispute began after Ashok Kumar allegedly made advances towards Prashad’s wife. Police say Natthu and Prashad consumed liquor together before allegedly attacking Kumar.

Natthu allegedly disappeared after the murder and spent years working in wholesale vegetable markets at different locations across Uttar Pradesh. Police said he maintained a low profile and lived alone.

The arrest brings a major development to a 42-year-old Delhi murder case. Further investigation is now underway.
