The Gurugram road-rage case involving a woman biker has taken a serious turn with the arrest of Kalyan Bainsla in Rajasthan. Bainsla is accused of hitting a woman rider with a car on Golf Course Road, an incident that was captured on camera and quickly spread across social media.
Police arrested Bainsla from Rajgarh in Rajasthan on Tuesday, September 15. The development came after investigators examined CCTV footage and other video evidence connected to the incident. The police have also added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to attempt to murder, to the case. The provision can carry a punishment of up to 10 years in prison.
What happened on Golf Course Road?
The incident took place on Sunday morning when Shivani Chauhan, who identifies herself as Sia on social media, was riding with a group of bikers on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road.
A video recorded during the ride showed a white sedan moving close to the bikers before the vehicle collided with Sia’s motorcycle. The impact threw her off the bike and caused her to skid along the road.
Sia later alleged that the occupants of the car had been following the group and behaving aggressively. She also claimed that the car moved towards her motorcycle deliberately.
The footage became widely circulated online, prompting strong reactions and demands for police action.
Police begin investigation after video goes viral
Gurugram Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident after the video appeared on social media. An FIR was initially registered at Sector-56 police station under provisions dealing with rash driving and causing hurt.
Investigators subsequently examined CCTV footage from the area along with videos recorded by the bikers. Following the investigation, police added the more serious Section 109 charge.
The case therefore moved beyond a routine road accident investigation and became a much more serious criminal probe.
Bainsla disputes the allegation of deliberate attack
Before his arrest, Bainsla had rejected the allegation that he intentionally hit the biker.
In an interview, he claimed that the bikers had repeatedly overtaken his car and slowed down in front of him. According to his version, the collision happened when one of the motorcycles moved unexpectedly.
Bainsla maintained that he had not intended to hit anyone. He also said he was unaware that a woman was riding the motorcycle at the time of the collision.
He further explained that he left the location because he feared that the group of bikers might attack him if he stopped.
Sia rejects the accident explanation
Sia has strongly disputed Bainsla’s account.
She questioned why the driver did not stop after the collision if the incident was genuinely accidental. She also pointed to the available video footage as evidence for her version of events.
The biker has alleged that the car followed her before the collision and that the incident was not simply the result of a traffic mistake. Her account and Bainsla’s explanation remain sharply different, making the video evidence and police investigation important to the case.
Arrest brings a major development
Bainsla’s arrest marks the latest major development in a case that attracted widespread attention within hours of the video emerging online.
Police had been searching for the accused after identifying him during their investigation. He was eventually traced to Rajasthan, where officers arrested him on Tuesday.
The investigation is now expected to focus on the exact sequence of events before the collision, the intention behind the vehicle’s movement and the circumstances surrounding Bainsla’s departure from the scene.
Police have also been examining additional footage and statements as they build the case.
Case remains under investigation
The arrest does not by itself establish guilt. The allegations against Bainsla will have to be tested through the legal process.
What has intensified the case is the combination of viral video evidence, the victim’s allegations, the accused’s conflicting account and the police decision to add an attempt-to-murder charge.
For now, the Gurugram biker case remains under investigation, with the next stages likely to depend on CCTV analysis, witness statements and other evidence collected by the police.
