IndiGo Flight Hit by Lightning at 17,000 Feet, Nose Damaged

A Patna-Lucknow IndiGo flight faced a mid-air scare on Wednesday. The aircraft encountered severe weather at around 17,000 feet. It later landed safely at Lucknow airport.

IndiGo flight 6E925 was carrying 104 passengers and six crew members. Everyone on board was safe after the aircraft landed.

IndiGo Flight Faces Severe Weather

The aircraft encountered bad weather while approaching Lucknow. Initial reports said the plane was hit by lightning at nearly 17,000 feet.

IndiGo later said the aircraft faced unfavourable weather, including hail. The hail caused damage to the plane’s radome.

The radome is the protective section at the front of an aircraft. It covers the weather radar and helps protect the equipment from external conditions.

The exact cause of the damage is being checked. Aviation officials and the airline’s engineering team will examine the aircraft.

Aircraft Taken Out of Service

The aircraft landed safely at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. The damage was noticed after the plane reached its parking bay.

The airline then took the aircraft out of service. Engineers will carry out a detailed inspection before it returns to operation.

The aircraft will fly again only after the required checks and clearances are completed.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also been informed about the incident. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the damage.

All Passengers Remain Safe

There were no reports of injuries among the passengers or crew members. IndiGo also arranged another aircraft for passengers affected by the incident.

The incident highlights the risks of flying through severe weather. Airlines and pilots closely monitor weather conditions during flights.

Despite the damage, the Patna-Lucknow flight completed its journey safely. Further details about the incident are expected after the technical inspection.

The airline’s response also helped avoid further disruption for passengers. The aircraft will remain grounded until engineers complete all safety checks.
