Vaibhav Sooryavanshi celebrates his maiden T20I fifty during the India vs Zimbabwe 1st T20I.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Fifty Leads India to Dominant Win Over Zimbabwe in 1st T20I

3 0

India finally ended their T20I losing streak with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the opening match of the three-match series at Harare Sports Club. Chasing a modest target of 126, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the spotlight with a sensational half-century, while Mayank Yadav set up the win with a fiery spell using the new ball.

The victory gave India a 1-0 lead in the series and marked their first T20I win since lifting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Mayank Yadav Gives India the Perfect Start

Zimbabwe struggled from the very first delivery after captain Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl.

Fast bowler Mayank Yadav dismissed Brian Bennett with the opening ball of the innings before producing another impressive spell of pace and movement. His ability to bowl consistently above 145 km/h troubled Zimbabwe’s top order throughout the powerplay.

Mayank finished with figures of 2 for 18, while Prince Yadav also claimed two wickets as Zimbabwe slipped to 26/3 inside six overs. Despite a middle-order recovery led by Wessly Madhevere, the hosts managed only 125/7 in 20 overs.

Madhevere top-scored with 39 runs, while Ryan Burl contributed 26 to help Zimbabwe post a competitive total after a difficult start.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Lights Up Harare

The chase belonged entirely to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The teenage opener attacked Zimbabwe’s pace bowlers from the outset and never allowed them to settle. Facing experienced pacers Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava, Sooryavanshi played fearless cricket, mixing powerful pulls with elegant lofted drives.

He raced to his maiden T20I fifty in just 18 balls, reaching the milestone with a series of boundaries and towering sixes.

Sooryavanshi eventually departed after scoring 50, but by then India had already taken complete control of the chase.

His aggressive innings effectively ended the contest inside the powerplay and earned him the highest impact rating of the match.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer Finish the Job

After Sooryavanshi’s dismissal, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer ensured there were no late hiccups.

Kishan played a fluent unbeaten knock of 35, while Iyer calmly guided the innings from the other end. The pair stitched together an important partnership that took India comfortably across the finish line.

India reached 126/3 in just 13.2 overs, sealing victory with 40 balls remaining and underlining their dominance throughout the contest.

India Take Early Series Lead

The comprehensive win gives India a 1-0 advantage in the three-match T20I series.

While Mayank Yadav’s pace attack dismantled Zimbabwe’s top order, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive batting ensured the chase was completed with remarkable ease.

India will now look to wrap up the series in the second T20I, whereas Zimbabwe must improve both their batting and bowling performances to keep the contest alive.
