UP Floods: 56 Dead After Heavy Rain, Villages Flooded
The Uttar Pradesh floods after heavy rain have caused major damage across the state. At least 56 people died and 46 were injured during the recent three-day rain spell. More than 1,020 houses were also damaged.
The situation remains serious in some areas. On Monday night, an embankment along the Narayani River breached in Kushinagar. Floodwater then entered several nearby villages.
Uttar Pradesh Floods Cause Heavy Damage
The state saw extremely heavy rain between September 25 and 27. The rainfall reached 775% above normal over 60 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Rain affected 56 of Uttar Pradesh’s 75 districts. Several cities also faced waterlogging and strong winds. The rain damaged homes, roads and crops in many areas.
Sitapur recorded the highest number of deaths at seven. Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur each reported five deaths. Hardoi reported the highest number of damaged houses.
Kushinagar Villages Hit By Floodwater
The latest development came from Kushinagar. A major breach occurred along the Narayani River near Tatwa Tola on Monday night.
Floodwater entered several surrounding villages. Uttar Pradesh authorities ordered rescue teams to move residents to safer areas. NDRF and SDRF teams were also asked to support the operation.
Officials are also working to restore power and improve drainage in affected areas. The state government has ordered regular monitoring of flood-hit districts.
UP Gets Some Relief From Heavy Rain
There is some relief for Uttar Pradesh today. The IMD expects lighter rainfall in most parts of the state.
However, the weather threat continues in other parts of North India. The IMD has forecast heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning in Uttarakhand.
The Uttar Pradesh floods after heavy rain have left several districts dealing with damaged homes and flooded villages. Rescue and relief teams continue to monitor the situation.
