New Delhi: The Sonam Wangchuk Protest entered a crucial stage on Monday as supporters gathered in large numbers for the ‘Chalo Sansad’ (March to Parliament) campaign.
The march comes on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, drawing nationwide attention. Delhi Police deployed heavy security around Jantar Mantar and the Parliament area to prevent any disruption.
The administration placed barricades at several locations and increased police presence in central Delhi. Security personnel monitored entry points leading to Parliament, while traffic restrictions were introduced on key routes. Sonam Wangchuk Protest Draws Support
Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for several weeks. He is currently receiving medical care at Safdarjung Hospital. Wangchuk requested permission to leave the hospital temporarily so he could join the march. He has said he will consider ending his fast only after receiving a meaningful response to the protesters’ demands from the government or Members of Parliament.
Students, social activists and supporters from different states reached Delhi to participate in the march. Many carried banners and raised slogans calling for action on issues they believe require urgent attention. The protest remained largely peaceful, although police stopped demonstrators from moving towards restricted areas near Parliament.
