India began aggressively despite losing Smriti Mandhana for eight. Verma, who was dropped early in her innings, punished Bangladesh’s missed opportunity and reached her half-century from 29 balls.
The opener made 53 from 34 deliveries, hitting eight fours and one six. Her innings gave India control of the required rate and helped the team reach 85/2 after 10 overs.
Bangladesh briefly revived the contest after Verma’s dismissal. Yastika Bhatia made 23, but India slipped to 98/4 as Ritu Moni removed Bhatia and Richa Ghosh.
Jemimah Rodrigues then struck 26, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten on 13. Deepti Sharma hit the winning boundary as India finished on 139/5 with 19 balls remaining.
Radha Yadav and Sree Charani Restrict Bangladesh
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat, but Renuka Singh Thakur provided India with an early breakthrough by dismissing Dilara Akter.
Juairiya Ferdous and Sobhana Mostary rebuilt the innings with a 51-run partnership. Ferdous scored 33, Mostary contributed 22 and captain Nigar Sultana added 32, but Bangladesh struggled to accelerate during the closing overs.
Radha Yadav led India’s bowling effort with figures of 3/28, while Sree Charani returned 2/21. Charani’s two wickets in the final over helped India limit Bangladesh to 136/8.
Dropped Catches Remain a Concern
India’s victory was accompanied by another inconsistent fielding display. Four catches went down during Bangladesh’s powerplay, including three chances offered by Ferdous.
The missed opportunities did not change the result, but India will need a sharper performance against stronger opposition. The team had also identified fielding as an area requiring improvement after its earlier defeat to South Africa.
