“Just a Matchbox”: Delhi Argument Turns Deadly as 30-Year-Old Man Is Stabbed
A small argument over a matchbox turned deadly in northwest Delhi. A 30-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death outside a wine shop in the Keshav Puram area. Another man also suffered a stab injury in the attack. Police have apprehended two 19-year-old men and a juvenile in connection with the case.
The incident took place on September 15 near a DSIIDC wine shop. According to police, the trouble began when three youths allegedly asked two men for a matchbox to light a cigarette. The men reportedly said they did not have one. An argument then broke out and quickly turned violent.
Delhi Matchbox Dispute: What Happened?
Police identified the deceased as Bhawani, 30. The second victim was identified as Asha Ram, 32. Both men worked as labourers. Police said the accused allegedly assaulted the two men with their fists before one of them used a knife.
A PCR call alerted the Keshav Puram police. Officers reached the spot and found blood on the footpath. The injured men were taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital. Doctors declared Bhawani brought dead. Police said he had suffered a deep stab wound to his back. Asha Ram suffered an injury to his lower chest and was receiving treatment.
Police Arrest Three in Delhi Stabbing Case
Police registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to murder and attempt to murder. Investigators used local intelligence and technical inputs to identify the suspects.
Police subsequently apprehended Naresh Bahadur, 19, Tarun, 19, and a juvenile. Investigators said Naresh allegedly used the knife, while the other two allegedly assaulted the victims. Police also said the alleged weapon was recovered at Naresh’s instance.
The investigation is continuing as police work to establish the complete sequence of events surrounding the fatal argument.
