CBI Raids Bhagwant Mann’s Camp Office in Graft Probe, FIR Against OSD
Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Rajbir Singh Ghuman and five others. The agency also conducted searches at eight locations across Punjab and Chandigarh, including Mann’s camp office in Chandigarh.
CBI Searches Eight Locations in Punjab and Chandigarh
The searches followed a Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing the CBI to investigate allegations of corruption linked to the Chief Minister’s Office. The allegations include influencing officer postings, government tenders, licensing matters, administrative decisions and other government processes in exchange for financial benefits.
The CBI searched locations in Chandigarh, Mohali, Sangrur, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Patiala and Jalandhar. Laptops, mobile phones and documents were reportedly seized during the operation and are being examined as part of the investigation.
Mann’s OSD Named in Corruption Case
The case names Rajbir Singh Ghuman, alleged middleman Nitin Gohal, Jitin Gohal alias Raja, Romi Raja Mahajan, Bir Devinder and RS Nagra, along with unidentified public and private persons.
The CBI action follows material shared by the Enforcement Directorate with authorities. The High Court had observed that the material prima facie disclosed cognisable offences and ordered a CBI investigation.
Bhagwant Mann Rejects Allegations
Bhagwant Mann has rejected the allegations and accused the BJP of using central investigative agencies for political purposes. Aam Aadmi Party leaders have also criticised the CBI action and questioned the timing of the investigation.
The Punjab government has challenged the High Court order directing the CBI probe and approached the Supreme Court. The matter is now before the apex court.
CBI Investigation Continues
The investigation is currently underway. The CBI is examining documents and electronic devices recovered during the searches to determine whether the allegations of bribery and other wrongdoing are supported by evidence.
Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
