CM Yogi Warns UP Teachers Over Bribe, Says ‘Will Go to Jail’
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strict warning against bribery during teacher appointments. He said anyone demanding money from newly appointed teachers for joining would face strict action and could go to jail. Yogi made the statement on September 22 while distributing appointment letters to 3,567 newly selected teachers and school heads in Lucknow.
3,567 Teachers Receive Appointment Letters
The appointment letters were given to candidates selected through the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission. The group includes 319 principals, 258 headmasters, 618 postgraduate teachers (PGTs) and 2,372 trained graduate teachers (TGTs). The appointments are for non-government-aided secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh. Yogi said the new teachers now have an important responsibility in educating and guiding students.
Yogi also said newly appointed teachers should not face problems during joining. He warned managers and other people against asking for money after appointment letters are issued. The Chief Minister said any such demand would lead to strict action. He also said the government wants the recruitment process to remain based on merit and transparency.
Yogi Mentions ₹8 Lakh Bribe Demand
During the event, Yogi referred to the case of a candidate who had applied for the same post during 2015-16. According to the Chief Minister, the candidate was allegedly asked to pay ₹8 lakh for the job. Yogi said the candidate sold his land to arrange the money, but another person allegedly offered more and got the opportunity instead.
Yogi said the recruitment process was later cancelled and the candidate has now received an appointment letter. He used the example while highlighting his government’s claims about action against corruption in recruitment. The ₹8 lakh account was presented by Yogi at the event and is not an independently established finding in the reports cited here.
More Jobs and New Rules for Teachers
Yogi said appointment letters had been given to 5,297 young people during the previous week. He also claimed that 9.5 lakh youths had received government appointments over the past nine years. According to him, another one lakh young people are expected to receive government jobs within the next six months.
The Chief Minister also asked the secondary education minister to write to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). He said the rules could be relaxed once to allow protesting TGT and PGT aspirants to appear in recruitment exams.
