India survived a major scare against Japan to win the India vs Japan T20I by just two runs at the Sano International Cricket Ground on Tuesday. Rain reduced the historic Suzuki Cup match to five overs per side.
India Score 32 Runs
India won the toss and chose to bat first. However, Japan’s bowlers put pressure on the Indian batting lineup from the start.
India managed only 32/4 in five overs. Captain Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 16 runs, while Sanju Samson added nine.
Japan’s Charlie Hara-Hinze took two wickets and helped restrict India to a low total.
The small target gave Japan a real chance to pull off a major upset.
Japan Miss by Two Runs
Japan started their chase with confidence and finished on 30/3 after five overs. They fell just two runs short of victory.
Captain Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming scored 12 runs, while Benjamin Ito-Davis made nine.
India’s Washington Sundar played a key role with two wickets. His bowling helped India defend the narrow lead in the final stages.
The last over added more drama after a wide-ball decision was reportedly overturned.
Historic India-Japan T20I
The match was the first T20I between the men’s teams of India and Japan.
The game was part of the Suzuki Cup celebrations marking 75 years of India-Japan diplomatic relations.
India will now focus on their Asian Games campaign. The narrow victory gave them a competitive final outing before the tournament.
