The devastating Nepal Flash Floods have claimed at least 1,127 lives, while 4,858 people remain missing as large-scale search and rescue operations continue across affected Himalayan regions.
According to Nepal Police figures reported on September 2, 6,541 people have been rescued so far. Thousands of police personnel have been deployed for rescue operations, relief distribution, road clearance and recovery of bodies.
Rescue Teams Search for Missing People
The disaster began on August 26 after a massive ice-rock avalanche triggered catastrophic flooding along the Bhotekoshi river system. The torrent carried mud, rocks and debris downstream, damaging settlements, roads, bridges, border infrastructure and hydropower facilities.
Rescuers are now focusing heavily on difficult-to-access areas. Damaged hydropower projects and debris-filled tunnels remain among the biggest challenges.
Specialised teams from Nepal and other countries, including India and China, have joined operations in affected areas.
Authorities have also recovered bodies from several districts. Chitwan recorded 348 recoveries, followed by Nawalparasi East with 217, Nawalparasi West with 190 and Nuwakot with 155, according to Nepal Police.
Identification and Relief Operations Continue
Identifying victims has become another major challenge. Nepal Police said details of 911 unidentified bodies had been uploaded to its website to help families searching for missing relatives.
The Nepal government says saving lives, locating missing people and providing immediate relief remain its priorities.
With thousands still unaccounted for, the toll from the Nepal Flash Floods could change as rescue and recovery operations continue.
