1. The tragic incident

A tragic accident in Mumbai’s Chembur area turned a normal school trip into a heartbreaking event on Tuesday. During heavy rain, a large roadside tree suddenly fell on a moving school bus. As a result, an 11-year-old student died, and four others were injured.

The entire neighbourhood was shocked by the incident. Parents, teachers and local residents were left in disbelief. Rescue teams were rushed to the spot quickly. What should have been a routine ride home was instead turned into a moment of fear and sorrow.

2. How the accident happened

Officials said the accident happened around 2:58 pm on Road No. 11 near Heritage Pride in Chembur. The school bus, which was operated by Make Force and carrying students of Universal High School, was passing through the area when the tree was uprooted and crashed onto the vehicle.

One side of the bus was badly damaged by the impact. Some children were trapped inside. Consequently, panic spread fast. The bus conductor, nearby residents and emergency teams acted immediately. Because of their quick response, the children were rescued from the damaged bus.

3. Victim and injured students

One of the children on board was 11-year-old Vihan Shrivastav. He suffered serious injuries in the accident. He was taken to Zen Hospital right away. Although doctors tried to save him, he was declared dead at 4:23 pm.

Four other students were also injured. Their injuries were minor. They are now being given medical care. Doctors have said that their condition is stable.

4. Rescue operation and traffic disruption

The accident led to a major rescue operation. Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, ambulance services and civic authorities were quickly sent to the spot.

Rescue workers used cutting tools and other equipment to remove the fallen tree and free the bus. However, the operation took time. Traffic in the area was badly affected for several hours. In addition, a large crowd gathered near the site, which added to the tension.

5. Safety concerns and investigation

The tragedy has once again raised concerns about old and weak roadside trees during the monsoon season. Heavy rain and soft soil can weaken roots. Therefore, trees become more likely to fall without warning.

An investigation has been started by the authorities to find out why the tree collapsed. Officials will check whether signs of weakness had been shown earlier by the tree. They will also examine whether timely inspection or preventive action could have stopped the accident.

The loss of a young life has left Mumbai in grief. As a result, parents and residents are now asking for stronger monsoon safety checks, regular inspection of risky trees and safer school routes for children. Meanwhile, as heavy rain continues, this tragedy stands as a painful reminder that timely precautions can save lives.
