Urvashi Rautela’s Tiranga-Inspired Gown Sparks Controversy, Actress Breaks Silence
BH24 Breaking News
Urvashi Rautela is facing backlash over her Tiranga-inspired gown at the Miss Universe India 2026 finale in Jaipur. The actress wore a dramatic saffron, white and green outfit with an Ashoka Chakra-inspired design. The look quickly triggered a debate on social media.
Urvashi Rautela’s Outfit Sparks Debate
Urvashi appeared at the Miss Universe India finale on August 23 as one of the judges. She later walked the stage in the floor-length couture gown.
The outfit featured tricolour-inspired panels, heavy embellishments and a blue circular motif inspired by the Ashoka Chakra. The gown reportedly took around three months to create.
While some users praised the patriotic fashion statement, others questioned whether national symbols should be incorporated into clothing. Several social media users accused the actress of disrespecting the national flag.
Urvashi Rautela Breaks Her Silence
Urvashi has now responded to the controversy.
She said the gown was not a literal reproduction of the Indian National Flag. According to the actress, it was a couture interpretation inspired by the colours and symbolism associated with India.
She also pointed out differences in the shades, proportions, orientation and central design. She described the outfit as a high-fashion homage to India rather than an actual national flag.
What Is the Flag Code Debate?
India’s Flag Code and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act contain rules governing the use and display of the national flag.
However, the key issue in this controversy is whether a tricolour-inspired fashion design should be treated the same as using the actual national flag. Reports have highlighted this distinction while discussing the online backlash.
The controversy has now turned Urvashi’s Miss Universe India appearance into one of the most talked-about celebrity fashion stories online.
