Police in Bhopal have registered an FIR against Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh, his father Shailesh Singh and their family driver. A former cook accused them of assault, verbal abuse and stopping him from leaving their home.
Shashank Singh has denied the allegations. Meanwhile, Ratibad Police have started an investigation.
Cook accuses family of assault
The complainant is 31-year-old Vipendra Singh Tomar from Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh. According to reports, he joined the family as a cook on June 25.
The family reportedly offered him a monthly salary of Rs 15,000. He was also expected to receive food and accommodation at their home on Neelbad-Mendori Road in Bhopal.
However, Tomar claimed that problems began soon after he joined the job. He alleged that family members criticised his cooking and used abusive language against him.
Tomar also claimed that someone took away his mobile phone. As a result, he was allegedly unable to contact his family or other people.
According to the complaint, the situation became more serious on June 28. Tomar said he asked for his phone and told the family that he wanted to leave the job.
He alleged that Shashank Singh, Shailesh Singh and the driver then entered his room and assaulted him. He also claimed that they forced him to leave the house.
In addition, Tomar accused them of making him transfer Rs 1,000 for food and accommodation.
These allegations are part of the police complaint. They have not yet been proved in court.
Police register Shashank Singh FIR
Ratibad Police registered the Shashank Singh FIR after receiving Tomar’s complaint.
According to media reports, police also reviewed his medical examination. The report allegedly recorded injury marks on his face and body.
Police registered the case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The sections relate to abusive language, voluntarily causing hurt and acts committed by several people with a common intention.
However, an FIR does not prove that the accused are guilty. It only means that police have formally recorded the complaint and started an investigation.
Investigators are now expected to examine the statements of the complainant and the people named in the case.
Shashank Singh denies the allegations
Shashank Singh has rejected Tomar’s claims.
The Punjab Kings player said his mother found the cook in an intoxicated condition. According to Shashank, the family removed Tomar from the job for this reason.
He described the allegations as false. He also claimed that inquiries made in the complainant’s home district suggested that Tomar had a history of alcohol use.
However, this counterclaim has not been independently verified.
Reports also said that Shailesh Singh, a retired IPS officer, was not available for comment. Punjab Kings had not issued a public statement in the latest reports.
What will police investigate next?
Police may now examine the medical report, phone records, payment details and statements from both sides.
Investigators may also question the family driver and other people who were present at the house. Any available CCTV footage could also become important.
For now, the case remains under investigation.
The Shashank Singh FIR has brought legal attention to the IPL player and his family. However, police must still verify the competing claims before reaching any conclusion.
Further action will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation.
