Several-Day Counter-Terror Drive Yields Major Result

Security forces scored a major success in Jammu and Kashmir. A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative was killed in an anti-terror operation in Shopian district. The militant was identified as Zakir Ahmad Ganie. He was killed after a long search mission by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Intelligence-Based Operation Strengthened the Security Ring

The operation began after agencies received reliable input about armed militants in the orchard belt of Shopian’s Chanapora-Meemander area. Joint teams moved in quickly. They surrounded the suspected spot, increased surveillance, and blocked possible escape routes.

The search continued for several days. Security personnel scanned the area carefully despite rough terrain and thick vegetation. The operation later turned into a gunfight when the militants allegedly fired at the advancing forces.

Zakir Ahmad Ganie Killed in the Encounter

Officials later confirmed that Zakir Ahmad Ganie was killed in the encounter. Security agencies said he was an active Lashkar-e-Taiba member. He was linked to terror-related activities in South Kashmir and had been under watch for some time.

The operation involved the Special Operations Group (SOG), the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, and the CRPF. It showed close coordination among security agencies in the Valley.

After the operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police posted a message on social media saying, “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide,” to highlight the success of the mission.

Security Forces Continue Search in the Area

Security teams recovered weapons and ammunition from the site after the encounter. Officials said search and sanitisation work is still going on. They also said another militant may still be hiding in the area.

Authorities have not shared more operational details. They cited security reasons and the ongoing nature of the mission.

Major Setback for Lashkar-e-Taiba Network

Security officials said Ganie’s killing is a serious blow to Lashkar-e-Taiba’s network in South Kashmir. His death is expected to disrupt the group’s activities in the region. It will also support efforts to break down terrorist infrastructure.

Officials said intelligence-driven operations will continue across the Kashmir Valley. The aim is to stop militant movement, dismantle support systems, and protect civilians. They added that joint efforts by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF remain vital for security in the region.
