3 0

India produced a remarkable batting display in the India vs West Indies 2nd ODI, chasing 406 to register an eight-wicket victory in Guwahati. Shubman Gill led the charge with an unbeaten 223, while Rohit Sharma smashed 101 as India reached 406/2 in only 43.3 overs and sealed the three-match series 2-0.

Gill and Rohit dominate massive chase

Faced with a daunting target, Gill and Rohit turned the chase into a record-breaking performance. The opening pair added 255 runs, providing India with the platform required to overhaul West Indies’ huge total.

Gill reached his double century from just 117 deliveries, setting a new record for the fastest ODI double hundred. He eventually finished unbeaten on 223 from 133 balls. Rohit, meanwhile, struck 101 off 75 deliveries for his 35th ODI century.

Virat Kohli contributed 29 before Ruturaj Gaikwad joined Gill to complete the chase with 39 balls remaining. India’s 406-run pursuit was also their highest successful chase in ODI cricket.

Three West Indies batters hit centuries

Earlier, West Indies had produced an extraordinary batting performance of their own. John Campbell scored 101, captain Shai Hope made 104 and Amir Jangoo struck 114 as the visitors piled up 405/7 in 50 overs, their highest ODI total.

Despite three centuries in the innings, the total proved insufficient against India’s aggressive batting response.

The India vs West Indies 2nd ODI ultimately belonged to Gill, whose record-breaking innings helped India complete a historic chase and secure the series with one match remaining.
