IIT Bombay Student Dies After ChatGPT Exam Incident, Over 400 Students Protest
An IIT Bombay student died by suicide on Friday after an exam incident involving ChatGPT. The incident later led to a protest by more than 400 students on the IIT Bombay campus.
The student was a second-year student from the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. Reports said he was found using a mobile phone during an examination. IIT Bombay said he had uploaded the exam question paper to ChatGPT to seek answers.

The incident happened during an ongoing examination at IIT Bombay. According to the institute, staff members found the student using a mobile phone.
The instructor and Head of Department later spoke with him. IIT Bombay said they counselled him and assured him that the incident would not affect his academic career.
The institute also said that it had not started any disciplinary action against him. The student then returned to his hostel room. He was later found dead.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
IIT Bombay Students Hold Protest
The student’s death led to protests on the IIT Bombay campus. More than 400 students reportedly gathered and raised concerns about the incident.
Students also demanded answers from the institute administration. IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare later met the protesting students.
