A Central GST Superintendent was allegedly caught accepting an ₹8 lakh bribe during a Lokayukta trap operation in Bengaluru. The incident took place on September 17, and a video of the alleged transaction has also surfaced.
The accused officer has been identified as Mohit Pratap Singh, Superintendent of Central GST, South Division-4, South Commissionerate. According to the Bengaluru City Lokayukta, a businessman had approached the anti-corruption agency with an allegation that the officer demanded ₹8 lakh.
Bribe Allegedly Demanded to Close Complaint
According to the Lokayukta, the businessman, identified as Syed Zameer, alleged that Singh demanded the money to close a pending Central GST matter and a complaint that the businessman claimed was false.
After receiving the complaint, Lokayukta officials planned a trap operation to verify the allegation. The alleged transaction took place inside the officer’s chamber at Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala.
The Lokayukta said Singh was allegedly caught accepting the ₹8 lakh through a private individual acting as a mediator. The mediator has been identified as Salman Sheikh, who was also arrested in connection with the case.
₹8 Lakh Transaction Caught on Camera
A video shared in reports appears to show the alleged transaction, including bundles of ₹500 notes inside a bag. The footage reportedly shows the officer handling and counting the cash before Lokayukta officials intervened.
A case has been registered against the accused under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. The provision covers public servants allegedly seeking or accepting an undue advantage through corrupt or illegal means.
The Lokayukta investigation is continuing. The allegations remain subject to the legal process and have not been established by a court.
