Bhuleshwar Cha Raja Tragedy Shocks Mumbai
A festive Ganpati arrival turned tragic in Mumbai after the massive Bhuleshwar Cha Raja idol collapsed during its procession on Saturday night.
The incident took place around 9:50 pm at Jay Ambe Chowk in Bhuleshwar, South Mumbai. The idol was being taken towards its mandal when it suddenly toppled onto people accompanying the procession.
The 22-foot-tall idol was being transported from Byculla towards Bhuleshwar. It reportedly fell just around 50 metres from its destination. The sudden collapse caused panic among devotees gathered at the spot.
Two People Killed in Ganpati Idol Accident
Two people lost their lives in the tragic accident. The deceased were identified as Sanket Nevshe, 33, president of the Bhuleshwarcha Raja Ganesh Mandal, and Brijesh Hemant Joshi, 30.
Five other people were injured in the incident. The injured included two young children, aged five and seven. They were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment and were reported to be stable.
Police, fire brigade teams, ambulance personnel and civic officials rushed to the spot after the accident. Rescue operations were carried out soon after the idol collapsed.
What Caused the Bhuleshwar Cha Raja Idol to Fall?
A preliminary investigation suggests that the supporting structure of the idol may have failed. Police sources indicated that the welding of the steel frame supporting the idol broke, causing the massive structure to fall forward.
However, the exact cause is still being investigated. Police have registered an Accidental Death Report and are examining the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
The incident has cast a shadow over Mumbai’s Ganpati celebrations. It has also raised fresh concerns about safety measures while transporting large and heavy idols during crowded arrival processions.
The Bhuleshwar Cha Raja tragedy has left devotees and members of the local community deeply shocked as Mumbai prepares for the upcoming Ganeshotsav celebrations.
