Kolkata: Baruipur rape-murder case took a dramatic turn on Tuesday after police killed the main accused in an encounter during a crime scene reconstruction in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.

The encounter came just days after the alleged rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl shocked the state. The case sparked public anger, protests, and fresh demands for faster justice in crimes against children.

What Happened During the Crime Scene Reconstruction?

According to the West Bengal Police, investigators took the accused to the crime scene to recreate the sequence of events. Such exercises help officers verify evidence and understand exactly how a crime took place.

During the reconstruction, the accused allegedly tried to snatch a police officer’s service pistol and escape.

Police said officers warned him several times. However, he allegedly ignored those warnings. The officers then opened fire in self-defence.

After the firing, police rushed the accused to a nearby hospital. Doctors later declared him dead.

Authorities will examine the encounter under the standard legal procedure followed in every police firing.

Investigation Is Not Over
