The CJP October 10 protest is part of a wider campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has welcomed the INDIA bloc’s planned protest. However, the party says its own mobilisation is part of a broader movement led by young people and Gen Z.
CJP Calls October 10 Protest a Youth-Led Movement
At a press conference on October 5, CJP co-convener Saurav Das called on political parties, student groups, activists and citizens to raise their concerns peacefully.
Das said the October 10 protest should not be seen as the campaign of just one organisation. He described it as a wider call from young people and Gen Z. CJP, he said, is one part of this movement.
He also said repeated protests reflected public frustration. According to Das, many people felt their voices were not being heard. He argued that taking to the streets had become a last resort for those trying to raise their concerns.
INDIA Bloc Plans Separate Protest
The INDIA bloc has planned a march to the Election Commission of India headquarters on October 6. Opposition parties have raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. They have also demanded action against Gyanesh Kumar.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said it will not take part in the October 6 march. Instead, it plans to continue its campaign separately. The October 6 march is different from CJP’s planned mobilisation on October 10.
CJP Raises Concerns About Possible Arrests
Das also claimed that people within the establishment had warned CJP leaders about possible arrests before October 10. He said the protest would go ahead even if party members were detained. These claims have not been independently verified.
The dispute also follows a controversy over the Election Commission’s statement on changes to Form 6, which is used for first-time voter registration.
During a Supreme Court hearing, Chief Justice Surya Kant said the court had not approved the changes cited in the commission’s statement.
The October 10 protest is expected to keep public attention on the Election Commission and the demands concerning Gyanesh Kumar.
