India added two more medals to its Asian Games campaign on Monday, September 28, taking the country’s overall tally to 39 medals at the latest verified count. Asian Games 2026 India action in Aichi-Nagoya saw Esha Singh deliver another shooting podium, while Pincky Balhara contributed a bronze in kurash. India stood 12th with four gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze medals.
Esha Singh adds shooting silver
Esha Singh claimed silver in the women’s 25m pistol final after a closely fought contest with China’s Xiao Jiaruixian. The two shooters were tied on 38 points, sending the gold-medal battle into a shoot-off, where Xiao eventually prevailed. Esha’s result gave India its 38th medal of the Games.
India’s shooting challenge in the event also featured Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat. Shooting has remained an important source of medals for the Indian contingent during the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Pincky Balhara takes bronze in kurash
Pincky Balhara then increased India’s tally to 39 by securing bronze in the women’s -78kg kurash competition. Her campaign ended in the semi-final against South Korea’s Mo Sumin, but the result ensured another podium finish for India.
The medals followed a productive September 27, when India collected seven podium finishes. The contingent entered Monday with 37 medals before Esha and Pincky added to the count.
September 28 also featured a packed programme for India across cricket, athletics, hockey, archery, boxing, squash and several other disciplines. India’s men’s cricket team was scheduled to face Afghanistan in the quarter-final, while the men’s hockey team had a Pool A fixture against Bangladesh.
With several competitions still progressing when this update was checked, the Asian Games 2026 India medal tally remained subject to further change.
