Yash returns to theatres with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas. The film arrived with massive expectations after the KGF franchise. However, early reviews suggest that its scale and star power do not completely make up for a weak narrative. The Toxic Movie Review by Rediff says the film relies heavily on Yash’s screen presence, while action, violence and style often overshadow the story.
Yash dominates the film
Set in a stylised version of Goa across different periods, the story follows Raya, played by Yash, as he builds his place in the criminal underworld.
The film gives Yash several larger-than-life moments with slow-motion sequences, gunfights and a powerful background score. However, Rediff criticises the 190-plus-minute film for its confusing storytelling and thin character development. Ideas involving family conflict, guilt and violence are introduced but, according to the review, are not explored deeply enough.
The Indian Express also gave the film 1.5 out of 5, describing it as heavily driven by violence and Yash’s star image rather than a strong screenplay.
Strong cast, limited material
Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth appear alongside Yash. Rediff particularly praises Kiara’s screen presence and notes Nayanthara’s restrained performance, while arguing that several characters suffer from weak writing.
Overall, the Toxic Movie Review response is largely critical. Yash delivers the swagger and action his fans expect, but critics feel the film depends too much on spectacle and not enough on a clear, engaging story.
