BJP Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi Over Police Station Protest, Calls It “Political Drama”

A fresh political confrontation has erupted in Delhi after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a protest at Parliament Marg Police Station over the alleged use of pellet guns during a July 20 incident. BJP leaders strongly criticised the Congress leader’s protest, accusing him of creating a political spectacle instead of allowing the matter to be handled through the existing investigation process.

Why Did Rahul Gandhi Protest?

Rahul Gandhi visited the Delhi DCP office along with Sahil, who was allegedly injured in the pellet-gun firing, and Sahil’s mother.

According to the report, Gandhi demanded that an FIR be registered in connection with the incident and that the name of the investigating officer be disclosed. After a heated exchange with police officials, he went to Parliament Marg Police Station and began a sit-in protest.

Rahul Gandhi said that there was evidence suggesting pellet-gun use and alleged that Sahil suffered pellet injuries to his body and eye.

He maintained that his demand was straightforward: an FIR should be registered and the investigating officer should be identified.

BJP Strongly Criticises Rahul Gandhi

The protest immediately triggered sharp reactions from BJP leaders.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh accused Rahul Gandhi of staging a political drama and questioned why he was visiting the police station and DCP office when, according to the BJP, the matter was already being investigated.

Singh also referred to the Supreme Court’s involvement and alleged that Rahul Gandhi was seeking publicity through the protest.

Ravi Shankar Prasad Calls It “Politics of Anarchy”

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad also criticised the protest.

He described Rahul Gandhi’s action as a form of “politics of anarchy” and claimed that Gandhi had begun the sit-in without prior permission or notice.

Prasad said police had informed Gandhi that an FIR related to the incident had already been registered and that an investigation was underway. He also pointed to the high-powered committee constituted by the Supreme Court.

JP Nadda Also Attacks Rahul Gandhi

BJP leader JP Nadda joined the criticism, accusing Rahul Gandhi of using the protest for political publicity.

Nadda described the protest as a display of what he called Gandhi’s “footage hunger” and argued that it was not genuinely about justice or the affected children. These are Nadda’s political remarks and should be understood as the BJP’s position rather than an independently established fact.

What Does Rahul Gandhi Say?

Rahul Gandhi has maintained that the issue is serious and that the victims deserve a proper investigation.

He claimed that pellet injuries were found on Sahil’s body and around his eye and alleged that the Delhi Police had denied using pellet guns.

Gandhi further alleged that officials had indicated that there were instructions from above not to register an FIR. These claims are allegations made by Gandhi and are not established findings in the report.

Supreme Court Committee Adds Another Dimension

The BJP’s argument is that the issue is already being examined through legal and investigative mechanisms.

According to the report, BJP leaders pointed to a Supreme Court-appointed high-powered committee while questioning the need for Rahul Gandhi’s protest at the police station.

For the Congress, however, the central demand remains accountability over the alleged pellet-gun incident and clarity about the investigation.

Congress-BJP Political Clash

The latest confrontation is another example of the continuing political battle between the Congress and BJP.

Rahul Gandhi has used the incident to demand answers from the authorities, while BJP leaders have accused him of turning the matter into a political campaign.

The dispute is therefore developing on two levels: the investigation into the alleged pellet-gun injuries and the political battle between the government and opposition.

What Happens Next?

The key issue now will be the investigation into the reported incident and whether the authorities provide further clarity about the alleged pellet-gun use.

The political controversy is likely to continue as both sides maintain different positions on Rahul Gandhi’s protest and the handling of the case.
