US-Iran War: Iran Hardens Strait of Hormuz Stand as Talks Face Deadlock

The US-Iran war has entered another tense phase as Iran hardens its position on the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has said the strategic waterway will remain restricted until the United States meets its conditions. At the same time, diplomatic efforts at the United Nations have failed to produce a clear breakthrough.

US-Iran War: Iran Sets Conditions Over Hormuz

Iran has linked the future of the Strait of Hormuz to the US blockade and other demands. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran would not make concessions on its nuclear programme, even if Washington accepts an Iranian proposal linked to reopening the waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major global energy route. Any prolonged disruption could affect oil supplies and prices. Brent crude was trading above $105 a barrel on September 25 as uncertainty over the conflict continued.

US-Iran Talks Continue Amid Tensions

The latest developments come despite diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. US President Donald Trump said earlier that discussions with Iran were continuing and that he believed a settlement could eventually be reached. However, the two sides remain divided over key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme and the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has also proposed a seven-day plan involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz if certain conditions are met. Mediators have described the diplomatic contact as positive but still at an early stage.

Why Strait of Hormuz Mattersyy

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is one of the world’s most important energy routes. Reduced shipping through the waterway has already created pressure on global oil markets.

A commercial vessel was also struck in the strait earlier this week, killing one crew member and forcing the evacuation of more than 20 others, according to Oman’s navy. The incident has added to concerns over shipping safety as the US-Iran war continues.
