Srinagar Drug Network Busted: 2.19 Lakh Tablets Seized, 8 Arrested
Srinagar Police have busted an alleged inter-state drug network and arrested eight people. The operation led to the seizure of more than 2.19 lakh pharmaceutical tablets and capsules. Police said the network was involved in the supply and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs.
The case began with an investigation at Safakadal Police Station. Police registered FIR No. 135/2026 and started tracking the suspected network. During the probe, officers searched several locations and recovered a large quantity of pharmaceutical drugs.
Over 2.19 Lakh Tablets and Capsules Seized
Police recovered 2,19,425 tablets and capsules during the operation. The seizure included tapentadol, pregabalin and tramadol. Officers also recovered around 3.83 kg of codeine-containing liquid.
In addition, police seized around 40 grams of a heroin-like substance. Investigators are now checking how the drugs entered the network and where they were meant to be supplied.
₹85.75 Lakh Cash and Gold Recovered
The operation also uncovered a large amount of cash. Police recovered around ₹85.75 lakh during the searches. Officers also seized gold coins and other gold items.
A firearm and a dagger were also recovered. Police are examining the seized items as part of the investigation. They are also checking financial transactions linked to the suspected network.
Eight People Arrested in Drug Case
Police have arrested eight people so far. One accused, identified as Haris Hameed Malla, was traced through technical surveillance and arrested in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Police teams also carried out searches outside Jammu and Kashmir. The investigation has reportedly covered locations in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Ambala.
Investigation Into Drug Supply Chain Continues
The investigation is still underway. Police are checking invoices, payment records, drug licences and other documents. Officers are also analysing digital devices recovered during the searches.
The probe aims to identify the source of the drugs and the people involved in their movement. Police said further arrests and recoveries may follow as the investigation continues.
