Nepal Floods: Death Toll Hits 392, 1,468 Missing; 290 Indians Uncontactable
BH24 Breaking News
Nepal is facing a devastating flood disaster after massive flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border region. The death toll has climbed to 392, while 1,468 people remain missing. Among those unaccounted for are around 290 Indian nationals, according to the latest updates from Indian authorities.
Nepal Floods Trigger Massive Rescue Operation
The disaster has badly affected areas around Nepal’s Rasuwa district and the Nepal-China border. A powerful surge of water, mud and debris swept through settlements, roads and bridges. Several key routes have been damaged, making rescue operations extremely difficult.
The floods are believed to have been triggered by an ice-rock avalanche and glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border. The sudden release of water and debris caused widespread destruction in the mountainous region.
Officials have reported 389 deaths in Nepal and three in Tibet. Hundreds of people have also been rescued, but damaged roads and disrupted communication lines continue to slow the search for survivors.
290 Indians Remain Uncontactable
The disaster has created a major concern in India. The Ministry of External Affairs has said around 290 Indian nationals remain uncontactable, while 84 Indians have been rescued so far, according to the latest government update.
The missing Indians include Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims, tourists and workers at the Trishuli 1 power project. Around 200 additional Indians are reportedly stranded on the Chinese side of the border. India is coordinating with authorities in both Nepal and China to locate and assist its citizens.
Rescue Efforts Continue Amid Fresh Flood Threat
Rescue teams are working against difficult weather and terrain conditions. Helicopters are being used to reach isolated areas, while authorities continue searching for people trapped or missing after the floods.
The situation remains dangerous as authorities are also monitoring a newly formed barrier lake near the affected region. A sudden breach could create another major flood downstream.
Families across India and other countries are waiting for updates on missing relatives. Authorities are continuing rescue operations and working to restore communication with affected areas.
