The Delhi High Court on Monday granted Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other respondents three weeks to file their replies to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea in the National Herald case. The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 10.
What happened in court?
Justice Manoj Jain heard the matter after senior counsel representing the respondents sought additional time to submit their replies. Accepting the request, the High Court directed that the responses be filed within three weeks before the next hearing.
Why is the National Herald case important?
The ED has challenged a trial court order that refused to take cognisance of its chargesheet in the alleged money laundering case. The agency alleges that properties linked to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), publisher of the National Herald newspaper, were unlawfully acquired through Young Indian, a company associated with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The accused have denied any wrongdoing.

The High Court will hear detailed arguments on September 10 after all respondents submit their replies. The outcome could determine whether the ED’s chargesheet proceeds further in court.
