While speaking to Filmygyan, Shriya explained that modern standards may not always help us understand people who lived centuries ago.

Her remarks came after Swara Bhasker’s criticism of Padmaavat returned to the spotlight.
What Did Swara Bhasker Say?
Swara had questioned the message behind the film’s Jauhar sequence. She raised concerns about how a modern audience may interpret the scene, especially survivors of sexual violence.
The actress later clarified her position after receiving criticism online.
Swara said she never called Rani Padmaavati or the women who performed Jauhar “cowards.” Instead, she questioned the message that viewers might take away from the portrayal.
Padmaavat Debate Returns
Sanjay Leela Bhansali released Padmaavat in 2018. The film featured Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in leading roles.
Swara had criticised its climax soon after the film’s release. The issue has now returned to public discussion following her recent remarks.
