UP Medical Stipend Hike: MBBS and BDS Interns to Get ₹25,000 Per Month
BH24 Breaking News
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major hike in the stipend for medical interns. MBBS and BDS interns will now receive ₹25,000 per month. The earlier stipend was ₹12,000 per month.
The decision brings a major financial boost for young doctors and dental graduates. It was approved by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on August 25, 2026. The revised stipend will apply to eligible interns in government medical colleges, institutions and medical universities across the state.
Medical Intern Stipend Doubled
The new stipend is more than double the earlier amount. Interns will now receive ₹13,000 extra every month.
For a 12-month internship, the total stipend will rise to ₹3 lakh. Under the previous rate, interns received ₹1.44 lakh for the same period.
The hike comes after repeated demands from medical interns for better financial support. Medical students and interns have highlighted the long working hours and demanding duties during their compulsory internship.
Interns play an important role in government hospitals. They work in wards, OPDs and emergency departments. They also assist doctors and take part in patient care. The higher stipend will provide financial support during this crucial stage of medical training.
Nearly 4,000 Interns to Benefit
According to reports, around 3,928 MBBS and BDS interns are expected to benefit from the decision.
The latest hike also marks the second major increase in the stipend under the Yogi Adityanath government. In 2021, the state had increased the monthly stipend from ₹7,500 to ₹12,000.
The latest decision takes the stipend to ₹25,000 per month. It is expected to bring relief to thousands of medical and dental interns across Uttar Pradesh.
For many interns, the decision is more than just a pay hike. Internship involves long shifts, clinical duties and direct patient care. The increased stipend recognises the work done by interns in government healthcare facilities.
The move is likely to be welcomed by medical students across Uttar Pradesh. It also adds to the growing demand for better financial support for interns across India.
With the new ₹25,000 monthly stipend, Uttar Pradesh has given medical and dental interns a significant financial boost at the start of their professional careers.
