A shocking incident in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar has left the city stunned after a man allegedly shot his estranged wife outside her workplace before returning home, killing his sister and then taking his own life.
The incident took place on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the possible motive behind the attack.
Wife Shot Outside Bank
According to preliminary information, the man’s wife, Divya Mishra, worked at an ICICI Bank branch in Gomti Nagar.
Police said the accused, identified in reports as Manas Vajpayee, allegedly called Divya outside the bank and spoke to her for a short time before shooting her. She was taken to hospital but was declared dead.
The couple had reportedly been living separately for more than a year and had an ongoing family dispute that was also before a family court. Reports indicate that divorce proceedings were involved.
WhatsApp Status Raised Alarm
After allegedly attacking his wife, Manas reportedly returned to his home.
He then posted a WhatsApp status in which he claimed that his wife had cheated on him and indicated that he intended to kill himself and his sister. The status also mentioned other people whom he claimed knew about the matter.
Police are now examining the WhatsApp status as part of the investigation. Authorities are also trying to establish whether the allegations made in the status had any factual basis.
Sister Also Found Dead
After returning home, Manas allegedly shot his sister before killing himself.
Neighbours became suspicious after seeing his WhatsApp status and being unable to contact him. They reportedly went to the house and entered after receiving no response.
Two bodies were subsequently found inside the residence, according to reports.
Police Investigating the Motive
Police are examining several aspects of the case, including the couple’s marital dispute, the WhatsApp status and the sequence of events between the shooting outside the bank and the deaths at the residence.
The allegation that Divya had “cheated” on her husband has not been independently established and remains part of the claims made by the accused in his social media status.
Investigators are expected to examine digital evidence, witness accounts and other available information to determine what led to the killings.
