Rahul Gandhi Attacks Modi Government Over UGC-NET Re-Exam: ‘Look at What Your NTA Has Done’

4 0

The UGC-NET exam has become a new political flashpoint. The National Testing Agency (NTA) decided to re-conduct the test for three subjects. Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi used the move to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also questioned the credibility of India’s exam system.

Gandhi reacted to the NTA decision and directly addressed the Prime Minister. He said, “Modi ji, look at what your NTA has done.” He made this remark after the agency announced fresh exams for English, Commerce, and Sociology. The NTA took this step after complaints about major errors in the question papers.

The decision has again put the NTA under scrutiny. The agency conducts several national-level entrance and eligibility exams. The UGC-NET matters a lot for thousands of candidates. It decides eligibility for Assistant Professor posts and PhD admissions.

Why NTA Ordered a Fresh Examination

The issue started after candidates flagged problems in the question papers. The Sociology paper, held on June 30, drew several complaints. Students reported spelling mistakes, wrong translations, and errors in scholars’ names. They said names like Ritzer, Parsons, Ghurye, and Nussbaum appeared incorrectly. Some candidates also said they could not understand certain questions due to poor translation. The English paper also faced criticism. Many candidates claimed that the exam repeated a large number of questions from an earlier test. One report said 67 out of 150 questions matched a previous UGC-NET paper. These complaints forced the NTA to review the papers. The agency found the issues serious enough to cancel the affected papers. It then decided to hold fresh exams instead of fixing individual questions.

English, Commerce and Sociology Papers to Be Held Again

The NTA has fixed new dates for the re-exam on September 9 and 10. The English exam will take place on September 9 from 9 am to 12 noon. The Commerce exam will follow the same day from 3 pm to 6 pm. The Sociology exam will be held on September 10 in the morning. Candidates will not pay any extra fee for the re-exam. The NTA has included only these three subjects in the fresh schedule. Other UGC-NET subjects will continue as planned. For students, the decision brings fresh stress. Many had already moved on after the first exam. They now need to restart preparation within a short time. Some had already shifted focus to jobs or other academic plans.

Rahul Gandhi Turns the Issue Into a Political Attack

Rahul Gandhi quickly turned the issue into a political attack. He blamed the government while referring to the NTA. His comment, “look at what your NTA has done,” directly targeted Prime Minister Modi. He linked the controversy to wider concerns about exam management in the country. The Congress has raised similar issues in the past. It has accused the government of failing students during exam-related controversies. The party says students suffer because of poor administration. This latest UGC-NET issue has given the Opposition another chance to question the system. It has raised concerns about accountability and exam transparency.

Students Pay the Price

Students now face the real impact of the controversy. A re-exam means more than just another test. Candidates must revise the syllabus again. Many also need to adjust travel and personal schedules. Some students had already stopped preparing after the first exam. UGC-NET plays a key role in academic careers. It decides eligibility for research fellowships and teaching posts. It also supports PhD admissions in many universities. Because of this, students expect high accuracy in question papers. They expect correct translations and error-free content. Even small mistakes can affect performance and results.

A Bigger Question for the NTA

The controversy has added pressure on the NTA. The agency has already faced criticism in recent years. The decision to cancel the three papers aims to restore fairness. However, it also raises a key question. Why did the agency not catch these errors before the exam? Students noticed many of the issues during the test itself. Reports of repeated questions and incorrect names spread quickly on social media. The re-exam may fix the immediate problem. But it cannot undo the stress and confusion caused earlier.

What Happens Next?

Students will now prepare for the September re-exam. The NTA has confirmed that it will not charge any extra fee. The political debate is also likely to continue. Rahul Gandhi’s remarks have already increased pressure on the NTA. The agency now faces the challenge of restoring trust among students. The issue goes beyond one exam. Students depend on fair and accurate testing systems. Errors in question papers affect their preparation and future plans. The UGC-NET controversy has now become a test for the system itself. The September re-exam will show whether the NTA can avoid past mistakes and deliver a fair process.
