US-Iran War Escalates as Iran Launches Missile and Drone Attacks
US-Iran War tensions have sharply escalated after fresh American strikes on Iranian military targets. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks against US-linked positions across the Middle East. The latest exchange has ended a month-long lull and raised fears of a wider regional conflict.
US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran
The United States launched a new wave of strikes against Iran on Tuesday. US Central Command said its forces targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps positions. The strikes included air-defence systems, radar sites, maritime assets and communication facilities.
The US also targeted Iranian capabilities linked to the Strait of Hormuz. Washington said the operation followed Iranian attacks and threats against commercial shipping and American forces in the region. The strikes mark one of the biggest US-Iran military exchanges since July.
Iran Hits US-Linked Positions
Iran quickly responded with missile and drone attacks. Tehran said it targeted American interests and military positions in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Iraq. Several countries reported intercepting incoming missiles or drones.
Jordan said its air-defence systems intercepted missiles entering its airspace. Bahrain and Kuwait also reported attacks involving Iranian drones. US officials have not reported major American casualties from the latest strikes.
Iran has also accused the United States of causing civilian deaths during its latest strikes. Iranian officials said a wedding gathering near the Strait of Hormuz was hit. The claims have not been independently verified, while US officials said American forces do not deliberately target civilians.
Strait of Hormuz Raises Global Concerns
The renewed fighting has placed the Strait of Hormuz at the centre of the crisis. The strategic waterway carries a major share of global oil shipments. Recent attacks on commercial vessels have already disrupted traffic.
Saudi Arabia said an Iranian attack on an oil tanker killed two sailors. Meanwhile, oil prices have risen as traders assess the risk of further disruption. Shipping companies and governments are now facing growing pressure to protect vessels passing through the region.
The situation remains highly volatile. US President Donald Trump has warned Iran against further retaliation, while Tehran has threatened to continue responding to American attacks. As both sides prepare for possible further action, international concerns are growing that the renewed conflict could spread across the wider Middle East.
