India-Pakistan Tensions Rise After Punjab Border Incident, Both Countries Summon Top Envoys
Tensions between India and Pakistan have increased after a border incident in Punjab. Both countries have summoned each other’s top diplomats following the incident in the Ferozepur sector along the International Border.
The diplomatic dispute began after Pakistan summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires. Pakistan protested over the deaths of two Pakistani nationals. It described the two men as civilians and questioned the action taken by the Border Security Force (BSF).
India later summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) protested what it called cross-border infiltration from Pakistan.
What Happened At The Punjab Border?
According to India, three people entered Indian territory in the Ferozepur sector on October 2. The MEA said the BSF warned them several times to return to Pakistan.
However, the group allegedly continued towards the border fence. The BSF then took action after considering them a security threat.
India also linked the incident to cross-border activities by armed drug-smuggling groups. The MEA asked Pakistan to investigate such activities and stop unauthorised movement across the International Border.
Pakistan Rejects India’s Claims
Pakistan has rejected India’s account of the incident. Islamabad said the two people who died were unarmed civilians. It also accused the BSF of using excessive force.
Pakistan has called for a transparent investigation into the deaths. It has also demanded action against those responsible.
India, however, has rejected Pakistan’s allegations. New Delhi maintains that the individuals entered Indian territory despite repeated warnings from the BSF.
Fresh Diplomatic Dispute
The incident has created a fresh diplomatic dispute between the two neighbouring countries. Both sides have now raised their concerns through official diplomatic channels.
The development has also renewed attention on security along the Punjab border. Cross-border infiltration and drug trafficking remain key concerns for Indian security agencies.
For now, India and Pakistan continue to give different accounts of the October 2 incident. The latest diplomatic exchanges have added another point of tension between the two countries.
