308-Wheel ‘Mahabali’ Truck Reaches Ghazipur, Here’s the Latest Update
A massive 308-wheel Mahabali truck carrying a huge industrial boiler from Belgium has reached Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. The extraordinary vehicle is transporting the equipment from Odisha’s Paradip port to the Balrampur Sugar Mill in Kumbhi, Lakhimpur Kheri.
The giant vehicle has attracted huge attention from people along the route. Locals are stopping to watch the truck and taking photographs and videos of the massive convoy.
Where is the Mahabali truck now?
According to the latest update published on October 5, the truck has reached Ghazipur and is moving towards Lakhimpur Kheri.
The convoy has reached the Birno toll plaza area, where preparations are being made to create a suitable route for the oversized vehicle. Because of its enormous size and weight, normal road lanes are not sufficient at several locations.
The truck is moving at only around 10–20 kilometres per day because of its huge size and weight. The latest report says it could still take around three to four weeks to reach its final destination at Kumbhi.
What is the truck carrying?
The truck is carrying a massive industrial boiler/vessel manufactured in Belgium.
The equipment is more than 100 feet long and weighs over 200 tonnes, according to the latest Aaj Tak report. It is being transported for installation at the Balrampur Sugar Mill’s facility in Kumbhi, Lakhimpur Kheri.
Earlier reports described the equipment as weighing around 164.28 metric tonnes, indicating that different reports have referred to different components/specifications of the equipment.
Why does the truck have 308 wheels?
The equipment is far too heavy and large for a conventional trailer.
Therefore, a special multi-axle hydraulic modular transporter is being used. The multiple axles and wheels help distribute the enormous load across the road surface and allow the equipment to be moved slowly and safely.
Interestingly, the number of wheels can change depending on the configuration of the transporter. A logistics manager told Aaj Tak that the vehicle initially had 308 wheels, while some trailer sections were later removed, bringing the configuration to around 260 wheels for parts of the journey.
A journey full of obstacles
Moving the giant machine from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh has been a major logistical challenge.
The convoy has already travelled through Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Along the way, teams have had to deal with narrow roads, bridges, overhead structures, electricity lines and other obstacles.
At several locations, roads have been modified or alternative routes prepared so that the giant vehicle can pass.
In some places, foot-over bridges and other structures have been temporarily altered or removed to provide sufficient clearance.
The truck’s journey from Belgium to India
The equipment was manufactured in Belgium and transported by sea to India’s Paradip Port in Odisha.
From Paradip, the massive equipment began its road journey towards Lakhimpur Kheri. It travelled through Jharkhand and Bihar before entering Uttar Pradesh.
The journey has already taken several months, including time required for paperwork, permissions and logistical preparations.
Why is the truck moving so slowly?
The biggest reason is its extraordinary size and weight.
The convoy normally moves at only around 10–20 km per day, although it has covered longer distances on some days when road conditions allowed it.
Specialist teams travel with the convoy and inspect the road ahead. They also work with local authorities and highway agencies whenever an obstacle needs to be removed or a route needs to be modified.
People gather to see the giant truck
The unusual sight has become a local attraction.
As the truck passes through villages and towns, people gather along the roads to see the enormous vehicle. Many are recording videos and taking photographs of the 308-wheel Mahabali truck.
When will it reach Lakhimpur?
The latest Aaj Tak update says the truck may take around three to four more weeks to reach its destination at Kumbhi in Lakhimpur Kheri, depending on road conditions and the challenges encountered along the remaining route.
So, despite already travelling a huge distance, the Mahabali truck still has a difficult final leg ahead.
