Virat Kohli creates a huge buzz as he confirms his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He informs the Delhi team management that he will join the squad for the upcoming 50-over domestic tournament, and the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) immediately acknowledges his decision. However, he may not play every match because of scheduling and workload.
Kohli Shifts Focus to Domestic Cricket
Kohli’s return to domestic cricket surprises many fans. Earlier, his comments suggested that he relies more on mental readiness than extra preparation. Yet, he now chooses to support Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Delhi starts its campaign on December 24, and the tournament continues till January 18.
Kohli last appears in the tournament during the 2009–10 season. He holds an impressive record of 819 runs in 14 matches, with an average of 68.25 and four centuries. Delhi competes in Group D alongside Gujarat, Saurashtra, Haryana, Odisha, Railways, and Andhra.
BCCI Pushes for Domestic Participation
The BCCI leadership, including Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar, strongly encourages senior India players to represent their state teams when they are not on national duty. Under this policy, Kohli and Rohit Sharma both agree to take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season. Rohit also informs the Mumbai Cricket Association that he will play for Mumbai.
Team India Updates Ahead of South Africa Series
Meanwhile, selectors prepare to announce the T20I squad for the South Africa tour. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya remain strong contenders for a return. Shubman Gill continues to recover from a neck injury, and his availability stays uncertain.
India plays the ODI series till December 6 and then begins the T20Is against South Africa from December 9 to 19.
