India Beat Sri Lanka by 124 Runs to Reach Asian Games 2026 Final

India booked their place in the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket final with a dominant 124-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second semi-final on October 1. A brilliant unbeaten innings from Ishan Kishan and an outstanding bowling performance helped India secure a place in the gold-medal match against Pakistan.

Ishan Kishan Leads India’s Batting

After Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl, India finished their 20 overs at 169/7. India lost early wickets, with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson dismissed for seven runs each.

However, Ishan Kishan steadied the innings with an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls, including four fours and five sixes. Young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also made an important contribution, scoring 38 runs off 21 deliveries.

Kishan’s innings helped India post a competitive total on a challenging pitch that offered assistance to the spinners.

Jasprit Bumrah Strikes Early

India made an excellent start with the ball. Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets in the opening over, putting Sri Lanka under immediate pressure.

Sri Lanka struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets regularly. The team also suffered run-outs as India’s bowlers and fielders maintained pressure throughout the innings.

Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma picked up two wickets each, while Bumrah’s early breakthroughs helped set the tone for the collapse.

Sri Lanka Bowled Out for Just 45

Sri Lanka’s batting lineup could not recover from the early setbacks. The team was dismissed for just 45 runs in 9.5 overs, giving India a massive 124-run victory.

Nuwanidu Fernando was Sri Lanka’s top scorer with 15 runs. The result secured India’s place in the final and confirmed that the team would compete for the gold medal.

India to Face Pakistan in the Final

India will face Pakistan in the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket gold-medal match, scheduled for October 3. Pakistan reached the final after defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in the other semi-final.

India will now aim to defend the men’s cricket gold medal they won at the 2023 Asian Games. The upcoming India-Pakistan match will decide which team takes home the gold.
