Prakash Raj Warns BJP Government After Jantar Mantar Protest Arrests
New Delhi, October 14, 2026: Actor Prakash Raj has criticised the BJP-led central government following the detention and judicial custody of two Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders in connection with a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. He questioned the police action and warned that attempts to silence protesters would not stop people from raising their voices.
The controversy comes after Delhi Police removed Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest venues and named three alternative locations for demonstrations.
Prakash Raj Questions Police Action
In a video shared on social media, Prakash Raj criticised the action against CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. He questioned why protesters were being detained for attempting to enter Jantar Mantar and raised concerns about alleged mistreatment of demonstrators.
Raj also challenged the decision to move protests away from the historic venue. His comments focused on the importance of allowing people to express their views and question those in power.
He warned that changing the location of protests would not silence public dissent. His message was that if authorities tried to suppress people’s voices, the entire country could become a place of protest.
CJP Leaders Sent to Five Days of Judicial Custody
CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were sent to five days of judicial custody on October 14, according to media reports. They had been detained after entering the Jantar Mantar site with other party members and raising slogans while carrying the national flag.
Police cited alleged violations of earlier undertakings and concerns about repeated breaches of law. The CJP, however, criticised the action and argued that the arrests were connected to its protest.
Another party member, Ajinkya Shinde, was reportedly released on a personal bond.
Why Is Jantar Mantar at the Centre of the Controversy?
Jantar Mantar has long been associated with demonstrations and public protests in New Delhi. The controversy intensified after Delhi Police removed its status as a designated protest site and named alternative venues.
The newly designated locations include Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground. The change has drawn criticism from protesters who believe that moving demonstrations away from Jantar Mantar could reduce their visibility.
The CJP and other groups have also been protesting over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Election Commission has denied allegations of political bias.
Prakash Raj’s Message to the Government
Prakash Raj’s remarks have added to the public debate over the right to protest, police action and access to public demonstration spaces. His criticism centres on whether restrictions on protest venues and arrests could discourage citizens from expressing their concerns.
The issue continues to attract attention as political groups and protesters challenge the restrictions and demand accountability.
The next developments will depend on the legal proceedings involving the detained CJP leaders and the response of authorities to the ongoing dispute over protest venues.
